tsering yangjen, a 16-year-old junior high school student in lhasa city, capital of china's tibet autonomous region, used to live in nyemo county at an altitude of 4,500 meters. as part of a relocation project for poverty-relief purposes, she and her family moved to tohlung dechen district in 2018 for better living conditions.
her family was lifted out of poverty as her mother was provided with a public welfare job in a new area. after being transferred to a new school, she was very scared and had no confidence. but soon yangjen found out her potential as a school radio announcer with the help of teachers. in the future, she wants to become a china central television (cctv) presenter and hopes to study in shanghai to expand her horizons.
this year marks the 70th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of tibet. a great effort has been made to help the region to achieve durable stability and high-quality development, which includes the huge contribution of a lot of poverty-alleviation projects.
