the word we talk about today is“六艺”——six classical arts. the six classical arts began in the zhou dynasty (circa11th century - 256 bc), during which the students were required to master the six arts, namely rites, music, archery, riding, writing, arithmetic. henceforth, the six classical arts formed the basis of education in ancient chinese culture and have a far-reaching influence on the formation of curriculum system for its emphasis on rites and music and aim to master of both pen and sword.
for example: the six classical arts—rites, music, archery, riding, writing, arithmetic— play a very important role as intangible assets in chinese culture.
